Morphid emerged from Amsterdam’s leftfield 90s techno scene: Jan Schermer was the DJ with the love of off-centre techno; Sjuul Rens had the technical chops and the treasure trove of analogue devices in the studio above his mum’s garage. It proved to be a golden combination and they soon developed their signature sound. Sparse and angular – never obvious – but warm-souled and always compelling.
